Description

TARKI Social Science Databank was founded in 1985. It operates as a
department of TARKI Social Research Informatics Center, which is a
consortium of different academic institutes and universities.

Besides running the Social Science Databank its profile includes research
on a wide range of issues related to social stratification, labor markets,
income distribution and information society. TARKI Social Research
Informatics Center has 20 years’ experience in empirical social science
research in Hungary. Our institute has been active and successful in
building up household and enterprise panel studies, and regular
Omnibus-type surveys during the nineties. TARKI biannually publishes the
Social Report book series, which gives an overview and analysis of the
socio-economic developments in Hungary. The latest English volume came out
in 2004.

The Databank has collected and archived more than 650 empirical social
research databases suitable for secondary analysis. One part of the
archived databases comes from TARKI’s own surveys and the other part from
Hungarian research institutes. The databank is public and it operates on
non-profit basis.

We have contributed to a great number of international research efforts.
Between 2000 and 2004 TARKI participated in a Fifth Framework Program of
the European Union called Consortium of Household Panels for European
Socio-economic Research (CHER).
