Biography
BFA, Visual Art, University of Regina
MFA, Video & Performance Art, Rutgers University
media arts (particularly video and sound), performance art, art and feminism, identity formation, photography, visual culture, landscape and the natural environment, curating and programming, community television.
I have also worked extensively with cultural non-profits, including galleries, production centres, campus and community television stations as well as in community theatre. I bring such experiences to my teaching and believe that alternative methods of making work and approaching ideas should be employed in addition to the dominant currents of industry standards.
I am an intermedia artist working in digital, electronic and live forms. I have exhibited internationally and my video work has screened in Mexico City, Budapest, Taipei and Edinburgh, among other places. My videos have also been exhibited at the National Gallery of Canada, the Power Plant (Toronto), the Walker Art Center (Minneapolis), MOCA (Los Angeles), the Mendel Art Gallery (Saskatoon) and the Festival International Nouveau Cinéma (Montréal). I have had recent screenings in Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria, Halifax, Chicago, Jersey City and New York City. I have recently completed the SSHRC funded "The Laurie Project" and I am continuing to work on the ever expanding video projection series "Between Sand and Snow".
I have been known to chase a tornado or two. I can send you photos.
