Description
Living in a time when media has increasing power to shape the values and opinions of our society, Media Tank works to provide communities with tools to understand and participate in critical decisions about our nation's media system and culture. Through our community education, grassroots organizing and national field-building, we are helping to define and build an emerging movement for media justice and reform as a key strategy for social change.
Media
Tank’s work includes media education and grassroots organizing
around issues like media ownership and consolidation, copyright
and intellectual property, the state of journalism and more. Media
Tank is also actively engaged with other groups across the country
in building a national network and infrastructure for the growing
media reform movement.
We believe that media literacy and media policy education go hand-in-hand;
you cannot fully critique a media product (a magazine ad, a music
video, a film, etc.) without understanding the forces behind-the-scenes
that created it. Neither can you effectively criticize the corporate
media model without analyzing the products and services they provide.
Media Tank’s programs and events seek to provide a holistic
understanding of our nation’s media system and culture.
