Biography
Katherine McFate is Program Officer for Government Performance and Accountability in the Ford Foundation’s Governance and Civil Society Unit, where she examines and promotes the role of the State in achieving peace and social justice in the US and beyond. From 2002-2006, she was the Deputy Director of the Working Communities Program at the Rockefeller Foundation. Her work at Rockefeller focused on strengthening linkages across policy groups operating at the national, state and local levels; encouraging more effective use of research and strategic communications; and developing tools for network building and collaboration. She also managed a research program investigating the changing structure of work, which focused in recent years on global production and distribution networks. As Rockefeller's Senior Officer for Learning between 1999 and 2001, she worked with Program Officers across the Foundation to sharpen their strategies and identify cross-programmatic learning and funding opportunities, while continuing to program domestically. Prior to joining Rockefeller in 1996, she worked on federal social policy and urban issues at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies in Washington, D.C. and produced an edited volume on comparative social policy. Before that, she worked in local government as Director of the Mayor’s Special Commission on Poverty in New Haven, Connecticut. Her graduate work at Yale University focused on social movements, rural land reform, and comparative politics.
