Joyee Chaterjee did her undergraduate degree in Political Science from Delhi University, in India, followed by a M.A. in Social Work from the Tate Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai. She followed that with a stint with the charity Child Rights and You. Her broad area of interest is in looking at how communication and popular culture reflect and impact social change, especially in South Asia. Her most recent project was a study of the use of South Asian matrimonial websites by members of the Indian community – especially looking at the impact on the idea of "arranged marriage" – and the articulation of contemporary gender-role expectations.
