Description
Internet Rights Bulgaria Foundation (IRBF) aims to promote initiatives in the social and human rights sectors in Bulgaria. We encourage not-for-profit organisations and social movements working in these sectors to use the Internet for publicising their activities and for networking with others who share their aims, both within Bulgaria and abroad. We also work to defend and extend their communication rights.
General aims of IRBF
To
inform about the activities of the social NGOs dealing with the
advancement and protection of human and social rights in Bulgaria, to
promote their campaigns and projects, and assist them on matters
related to Internet use and policy.
To
initialise a dialogue to activate and facilitate communication among
non-governmental organisations in Bulgaria and the member states of the
European Union and to increase social movement activity at local,
regional and national level.
To educate and raise the ICT knowledge of social NGOs and providing them with information services though the Internet.
To
promote the use of the Internet by Bulgarian social NGO to assist them
in building relations with European NGOs working in similar social
areas and to reduce the digital divide in Bulgaria.
These aims are in line with the European Union Social Policy objectives of strengthening Civil Society and preparing the accession of the candidate countries. They address a vital aspect that might otherwise be neglected - the important role digital communications now plays in the development of international civil society.
