Description
Our mission is to examine mass communication as a social phenomenon. We are dedicated to understanding the structure, function and regulation of media systems, their relationships with wider political and cultural contexts, how mediated communication works, and what effects it has on values, knowledge, and behavior. We in the department, students and faculty alike, struggle to understand powerful and complex processes that are a central feature of contemporary life. We strive for the intellectual development of our students, ourselves, and our field as a whole. We hope to use our knowledge to critique and improve mass communication.
