Biography

Dr Inka Salovaara-Moring is Associate Professor in Communication (University of Tallinn) and Researcher with the Academy of Finland (University of Helsinki). She studied social and political sciences at the University of Helsinki and was awarded a PhD in Communication in 2004.

Her research is focused on media geography (localization, Europeanization and identity politics), political economy of media and Nordic/Eastern European Media systems. In addition to her own research project "Beyond East and West: Comparing Media Geographies of New Europe" (2007-2009 funded by the Academy of Finland), she is currently collaborating in the research project "European Public Sphere," which is also funded by the Academy of Finland.

At the moment she is engaged in editing two books: "Media and Nation in the Global Era" with Anna Roosvall (forthcoming 2008); and "European East and

West: Public Sphere(s) and Media" (forthcoming Nordicom 2008). She has been the President of the Finnish Association for Mass Communication Research and is a member of 'PLUS: Press Freedom and Pluralism in Europe' research group, and TIEKE decision-makers' index (Finnish Information Society Development Centre).
