Description

ITfC (IT for Change) is a non-profit organisation located in India. ITfC envisions a society capable of, and comfortable with, innovative and effective use of information and communication technologies (ICT) as a tool, to further goals of progressive social change.

We believe that the ongoing ICT for development approaches seldom transcend the efficiency parameters and fail to integrate fundamental ethical cornerstones of development like participation, access and equity. We strongly believe that changes in the current paradigm can happen only in the context of an informed debate, involving not merely the technology actors but all actors in the development arena.

In this context, we perceive our role as an intermediary to engage in debates on ICT for development and re-interpret the social and political narratives that are often sidelined, or are altogether missing.

We also go further, into the field, to demonstrate innovative ICT possibilities in actual developmental situations.

IT for Change is unique for its involvement in the entire range of thinking and action concerning the social dimensions of ICTs. ITfC researches and advocates, and at the same time distils best practices, and executes projects in the field. We believe that research and ideation cannot take an armchair view of things. Conversely, our projects while providing immediate benefits are also consciously designed to examine the theory, and enrich the conceptual framework, of the ICT4D discourse.
