Biography
Graciela León Orozco received her Ed.D in Educational Psychology, with an emphasis in Multicultural Studies from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. She is currently an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the School Counseling Program at San Francisco State University. Previously, she served for over 15 years as a volunteer producer/programmer for Radio Bilingüe, a non-profit radio network with Latino control and leadership and the only national distributor of Spanish-language programming in public radio. In 1998, she created and hosted an on-air parenting program for immigrants. Based on that experience, she developed her doctoral dissertation “The Education and Empowerment of Immigrant Latinos through Talk Radio.” With California Tomorrow, a non-profit advocacy, research and technical assistance organization committed to helping create a fair and equitable society, she helped develop an in-depth study of the challenges and successes of students of color in California’s Community Colleges. She has also worked as a bilingual teacher and counselor in underserved communities. Her research interests include radio, diversity/inclusion, and the representation of minorities in media.
