Abstract
This study represents part of fairly long line of research examining the relationship between media usage and strength of community ties (see below). In this study, the researchers employ telephone survey methods to explore this relationship. The results suggest that the strength of community ties increases as local media usage increases. The author raises the issue of causality (relevant to all of the studies in this line of research) – that is, does media usage increase community ties or do individuals with stronger community ties consume more media?
