Description

Our Goals

The Chaos Computer Club is a global community, which campaigns transboundarily for the freedom of information and communication without any censorship - by any government or company, and which studies the impacts of technology for the society and the individual. These goals are also stated in the preamble of the club's constitution, and are implemented in a lot of projects by members and friends of the CCC.

Tasks

The CCC considers itself to be a communication platform for Hackers and those who want to become one. Especially the technically interested people are focused, but not only the possibilities of technology are investigated, also the risks and the consequences for the society. The CCC published the results of those investigations via a variety of media channels and at public events, meetings and political discussions.

History

The CCC was founded in 1981 in Berlin - there were two big groups, one in Berlin, the other one in Hamburg. Since 1984, the CCC holds each year a "Chaos Communication Congress", which usually takes place around Christmas in Berlin. In the same year also appeared the "Datenschleuder", the magazine of the CCC for the first time.

Today

The CCC e.V. consists of about 1500 members, who are partly organized in a so called "Erfa" or "Chaos-Treff". In eleven big cities take those "Erfas" place, where most of the usual club-life happens, which is one of the basic principles of the CCC: To keep everything de-centralized.
