Abstract

This study provides a sociological perspective on the concept of localism, examining the relationship between local and national cultural influences in small towns, in an era in which communications technologies increasingly facilitate the in-flow of outside influences. The study illustrates the important role that the mass media play in bringing external influences into small local communities.
