Biography
I am an American by birth, who has lived in Sweden since 1970, trying to keep alive something of the spirit of the sixties as a sometime activist and a fulltime academic.
Ever since my undergraduate days, I have been interested in the politics of science and technology. In recent years, I have been especially concerned with the political implications of what I call "green knowledge" - that is, the ideas and practical experiments that are to be found in the world of environmental politics.
In my writings I have tried to combine history, sociology and cultural theory to provide contextual understanding of the relations between science, technology and the broader society. Most recently I have written, together with Mikael Hård, a survey of the entire field, Hubris and Hybrids. A Cultural History of Technology and Science, published by Routledge in New York.
