Biography
In 1994, Stavitsky won the School of Journalism and Communication’s
Marshall Award for Innovative Teaching and, in 1995, the University’s
prestigious Ersted Award for Distinguished Teaching. He has published in
numerous academic journals and is the author and co-author of
books on public radio journalism and public broacasting history,
including Independence and Integrity: A Guidebook for Public Radio
Journalism and A History of Public Boradcasting. He has
worked in television as a news directory, anchor and investigative
reporter, and in radio as a talk show host and sportscaster. Stavitsky
is a consultant to public broadcasting organizations and has also been
a visiting professor at The University of Tampere, in Finland.
Research
Telecommunication policy and broadcast journalism are the focus of Stavitsky’s research. He is interested in the Federal Communications Commission, public broadcasting and the radio industry. His current book deals with the state of U.S. radio after the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
